Everybody knows someone who was mesmerized by a bad boyfriend. Everyone but Justin’s low wattage girlfriend, Sweet Polly, could see that Justin was a disaster. He ruined everything he touched, for a decade. When he finally left, we felt briefly relieved and happy for our sister, but then Justin’s older brother, Mark, swooped in on her.
Mark has all the same friends as Justin. He does and believes all the same things as Justin, but she just can’t resist this second, intensely phoney man from the same family, the Libranos.
Sweet Polly is smitten with Mark and we, her siblings, are justifiably appalled. Again.
If you hadn’t guessed by now, Sweet Polly represents Central Canadian voters. The disbelieving siblings are the prairie provinces’ voters, who are shocked how gullible our Eastern sister is being.
We do not understand how Polly put up with Justin’s insincerity, incompetence and corruption for ten years. We are beginning to suspect that she is none too bright herself. We suffered even more than she did when he was around.
Justin’s older bro is Mark Carney, who suddenly looks like he can win an election for the Liberals, with exactly the same big spending, high taxing, economy- strangling policies as Justin offered.
Their cabinet members are identical. Trudeau’s willingness to sacrifice Canada’s economy on the altar of climate hysteria remains under Carney, along with arbitrary energy production caps and insane, anti pipeline and anti LNG policies, which will make energy more expensive, while America and Europe move fast, in the opposite direction.
By rewarding the dysfunctional, disastrous Liberals with another chance, Laurentian Canada is acting even more masochistic than Polly. The policies Carney now claims to be reversing are all ones he urged Trudeau to implement. The Carbon tax was a Liberal idea. Carney wrote a book indicating that getting Canada to Net Zero is a major goal of his, even though mathematically it would make no difference to global CO2 emissions, but would massively damage Canada’s energy exporting economy.
Oil and gas are Canada’s leading exports by far and the only thing supporting our plunging Loonie. Economic growth under the Liberals has been worse than anemic, as Trudeau/Carney’s policies chased away almost a Trillion dollars of private investments in the last decade.
Carney wants to continue randomly punishing Canada’s oil and gas industry, by hitting it with a new tax that will be hidden from voters but passed along, while Carney dodges the blame.
Meanwhile, President Trump’s USA is working to undo the Sniffy Joe Biden administration’s restrictions on hydrocarbon energy and reversing Biden's subsidies for alternative energy, which needlessly drove American energy costs higher. This as Trudeau sprayed $50 odd Billion of taxpayer money at subsidized Ontario and Quebec battery plants, which are now going bankrupt due to faltering demand for electric cars.
In Europe, so-called “green” energy policies like Carney’s have massively increased consumer energy costs in the United Kingdom and have caused de-industrialization in Germany, as German energy has become prohibitively expensive. Global banks are running away from the Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ), which Carney launched to block funding for oil and gas, but Carney is a true believer married to a climate activist and presses onward with his anti-carbon crusade.
Canadian polls show that Polly wants to give her favourite crime family, the Libranos, another chance. Since cousin Donald from down south started threatening, her head has been in a tizzy, so she runs back for more of the familiar Trudeau/Carney abuse.
Hers is a purely emotional choice, but we junior siblings are stuck in the back seat, prisoners who are helplessly along for the ride as she drives toward a cliff.
After what we went through with Trudeau for ten years, if Sis decides to hook up with Carbon Carney at the end of this month, we siblings should look hard at pursuing estrangement from her. After the lost decade under Trudeau, Alberta cannot afford another five years of abuse caused by Central Canada’s emotional, masochistic mistakes. Nor can Canada, but Central Canadians have lit their own hair on fire about Trump and cannot think clearly.
I have a family member who has often behaved badly and thus refuses to talk about the past, because it is embarrassing to him, but also never changes. Central Canadians, representing two thirds of the population, have somehow completely forgotten that it was their beloved Liberal Party, not Donald Trump, who grossly mismanaged Canada for the last decade and made us vulnerable to the Orange Menace.
Nobody ever learns anything. As a French socialist named Sartre observed:
“Hell is other people” (L’enfer, c’est les autres)
God help us.
Terrific analogy. I am appalled
It’s sadly amazing how quickly people forget how badly we Canadians have been treated by the Liberal party!
Protesters during the convoy time were billy clubbed and ran over by RCMP on horseback. Justin angrily shamed the anti vaxers for their choices!
He has skated through a number of scandals (some he paid off for silence) and the GG chooses not to address!
HOW is Carney any different than the predecessor??! He’s NOT! He moved Brookfield with which he is board of directors and a large shareholder to the USA for more favourable taxation. Canada has a HUGE liability to pay off, tent cities sadly, homes to build and please not container homes! Carney is a lame duck, how would he represent us well on the world stage?
